Fall 2025 Academic Probation Information for Hickory & App State Online Students

This information is for students that are enrolled through the Hickory campus or App State Online.

Academic Resilience I Requirements

These requirements are designed to provide intentional semester-long support to the following students:

Students who are in University College (undeclared majors) and

  • are in their first term of academic probation
    or
  • have successfully appealed academic suspension

are required to participate in Academic Resilience I.

 Option 1

Take Course: US 1531 - Academic Resilience 

You can fulfill your requirements by registering for the course US 1531 - Academic Resilience and successfully completing the course with a C- or higher.

Note that this full-semester, 2-credit-hour elective course is graded. If you would like to register for this course, please complete the US 1531 Registration Permit Request Form. Students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Completing the form is required to request a permit, which will allow you to self-register for these sections. Please make sure that when you register, you are registering for the IN PERSON class at the HICKORY campus.

Step 1: Attend Advising Appointment

Complete required advising between Monday, December 8 - Friday, January 16.

  • Schedule an appointment
  • We strongly recommend that you meet with your advisor by the end of drop/add week to do a GPA calculation, review your schedule, make adjustments, and more! 

Step 2: Attend Three Academic Success Coaching Appointments

Academic Resilience I requires that students attend 3 Academic Success Coaching appointments. Academic Success Coaches support students in one-on-one appointments to develop the soft skills it takes to be successful in college, such as time management, organization, study skills, and more. Students will schedule one appointment per month--see below.

  • Appointment/Session 1: Complete between Monday, January 12 - Friday, February 20
  • Appointment/Session 2: Complete between Monday, February 23 - Friday, March 27
  • Appointment/Session 3: Complete between Monday, March 30 - Wednesday, April 29

Academic Resilience II Requirements

Students who are in University College (undeclared majors) and are on continued probation (second semester on probation) are required to participate in Academic Resilience II.

Option 1

Step 1: Attend Advising Appointment

  • We strongly recommend that you meet with your advisor by the end of drop/add week to do a GPA calculation, review your schedule, make adjustments, and more! 

Step 2: Attend Three Academic Support Initiatives

Academic Resilience II requires that students complete three Academic Support appointments/sessions throughout the semester. Your choice of 3 experiences at any of these academic initiatives can be mixed and matched, or all three can be completed at the same center.:

Students must complete one appointment/session during each of the designated timeframes:

  • Appointment/Session 1: Complete between Monday, January 12 - Friday, February 20
  • Appointment/Session 2: Complete between Monday, February 23 - Friday, March 27
  • Appointment/Session 3: Complete between Monday, March 30 - Wednesday, April 29

OR

Option 2

Take one of the Online Academic Success Courses.

You may choose to fulfill your requirements by registering for one of the Online Academic Success courses and completing the course with a C- or higher in the 1st half of the semester  (1/12 - 3/2). Please note these half semester, 1-credit hour elective courses are graded. 

Academic Success Workshop Requirements

Students in the following colleges who are on in their first term of academic probation are required to attend an Academic Success Workshop:

  • College of Arts & Sciences
  • Beaver College of Health Sciences
  • Hayes School of Music
  • Walker College of Business
  • Reich College of Education
  • College of Fine and Applied Arts
  • Honors College
