Kelly Edwards started as the Assistant Learning Specialist for the As-U-R Program in August 2021. Though not a Mountaineer by education, she has quickly become a member of the community! As Assistant Learning Specialist, Kelly works with students 1-on-1 and in small group formats. She coaches students in the As-U-R program on developing and practicing skills and strategies to achieve success while at Appalachian State University. Additionally, Kelly helps a group of Graduate Student Employees (GSEs) be able to manage their own course load while working with their As-U-R students.
Kelly received her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2014 and her Masters in Clinical Child and School Psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2015. She then went on to receive her Specialist in School Psychology from SIUE in 2017. Kelly has had the opportunity to work with a variety of individuals in different capacities over the years. She briefly worked with the Department of Children and Family Services with their Child Protection team as an undergrad. During grad school and beyond, Kelly had the chance to serve on teams of educators that assessed students who have learning differences and made recommendations on how to best meet their needs. Kelly has a passion for helping neurodiverse students and advocating for welcoming communities and safe environments.
When Kelly isn’t working with students, you can often find her spending time with her family: partner Cole and pets Scotty (dog), Charlotte (cat), and guinea pigs Gandalf and Gimli. Kelly is an avid Harry Potter fan, enjoys spending time exploring nature, and working on training with her certified therapy dog Scotty!
