Appointment-Based Tutoring

Spring 2022 Hours and Closures

  • Appointments will resume for the spring 2022 semester on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022
  • No appointments will be available Sunday, March 6th-Sunday, March 13th or Thursday, April 14th beginning at 4 PM-Sunday, April 17th
  • Appointment based tutoring will close on the last day of classes, Wednesday, April 27th

How to Schedule an Appointment in TutorTrac

  • You can schedule appointments as early as two weeks in advance and up to twelve hours before the scheduled appointment via TutorTrac
  • You are able to schedule two appointments per week per course. You are also able to schedule back to back appointments with a tutor
  • Make an online tutoring appointment
    • Log into TutorTrac with your Appalnet username and password and follow the instructions after login to begin the scheduling process for either an Online or InPerson UTS visit. You may want to watch the brief instructional YouTube clip that will visually guide you through the process prior to clicking on the "Schedule a Tutor" link below. Attendance Policies

  • Students in all tutoring sessions should arrive on time, be prepared for the session, participate actively, and stay for the entire appointment
  • Students who cannot attend a scheduled appointment should notify the Student Learning Center more than two hours before the appointment by emailing
    • Failure to do so will result in a missed appointment (see below)
  • Please contact the Student Learning Center (SLC) front desk at 828-262-2291 to make same day changes to your appointment
    • The SLC opens at 8 AM Monday-Friday and at 12 PM on Sundays

Student Expectations

  • Three missed appointments will result in the loss of tutoring privileges
  • Missed appointments will be received for the following
    • Cancelling after the deadline (2 hours prior to the appointment)
    • Failure to arrive to the appointment
    • Consistent tardiness or leaving the appointment early
  • Students must complete the Tutee Contract form prior to their first appointment
  • Tutors will not complete assignments for students and are free to terminate a session(s) if they feel you are placing inappropriate expectations on them

About Your Tutor

  • Tutors are...
    • Undergraduate students at Appalachian
    • Approved by the academic department relative to your course
    • Trained in learning skills and has demonstrated proficiency in these areas
    • Either pursuing or currently certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA)

Drop-In Learning Labs

  • If you are unsure about the need for a regular appointment and just want a setting to work on your assignments and ask questions as they arise, you may want to consider attending a Drop-In Learning Lab either in person or via Zoom. These centers have posted hours and do not require you to commit to regular attendance.
