Meet the newest full-time professional staff member of the Student Learning Center, Mr. Lee Cope!
Andrew Lee Cope was recently hired as our new University Tutorial Services Director. He has been an amazing new addition to our team and has dug right into work. But who is Lee Cope?
Lee is originally from a small town in McDowell County, North Carolina, called Old Fort. He currently resides in Burnsville, North Carolina, as he makes a brutal hour and a half commute twice a day to get to his job here at Appalachian. He is currently moving his family and all of his animals to Newland, North Carolina, which he describes with one word: “ROUGH!”. He will officially be moved into his new house on March 23rd where his commute will reduce to a nice thirty minutes. Keep the positive mentality, Lee!
Lee had worked for the Mars Hill University Student Support Services (TRIO) program before coming to work here at Appalachian State. This may have a slight relation to him attending Mars Hill (GO LIONS!) for college, earning a BA in Sociology and a BA in Spanish. He also attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson city, TN (GO BUCS!), and UNC Asheville (GO BULLDOGS!), where he earned his Masters.
When asked how he is liking his new job, he had this to say: “I love it! I am persuaded that the Lord opened this door for me and I am so grateful! The students I have met so far have been great. I have some really amazing colleagues! The collaborative effort in the Student Learning Center is infectious! I have some awesome Lab Managers to work with. Oh yeah, and Oscar Reyes is AWESOME too!” I can attest that all of our Lab Managers and Oscar love working with him as well!
He wants all of our tutors and students to know that his door is always open. He wants to help in any way that he can and it would be his honor to do so. “My life has forever been changed by the personal relationship I have with my Lord, Jesus Christ. I won't push that relationship on anybody at anytime, but if you would like to know more I would be deeply honored to share!”
We welcome Lee to the Student Learning Center, hope that you get to know him, and that Lee will have an amazing time with us!
